Energy stocks were rising but trading well under their prior intra-day peaks, with the NYSE Energy Sector Index rising 0.7% this afternoon while the SPDR Energy Select Sector ETF (XLE) was up 1.7%. The Philadelphia Oil-Service Sector index was slipping 0.1%, giving back an earlier advance, and the Dow Jones US Utilities Index was falling 3.3%. West Texas Intermediate crude oil was rising $1.18 to $122.11 per barrel while Henry Hub natural gas futures were $1.19 lower at $7.42 per 1 million BTU. In company news, Continental Resources (CLR) was 14% higher, easing from a 17% gain to its highest share price since August 2014, after controlling shareholder Harold Hamm offered to acquire the 17% of the oil and natural gas producer he and family members don't already own for $70 per share, or roughly 9% above Monday's closing price.
