Laboratory diagnosis of Lyme disease has traditionally used a two-tier process for detecting the presence of antibodies, which can take "several weeks" to develop in a patient's blood, T2 Biosystems said.
Lyme disease is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected ticks, with symptoms typically including fever, headache, fatigue and skin rash.
Shares of T2 Biosystems were about 10% higher in recent Friday morning trading.
