Wall Street Set for Gains; Ukraine Peace Talks, Data in Focus

US stocks were set for a higher open Tuesday with investor sentiment supported by ongoing peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, while traders looked ahead to readings on US employment and consumer confidence.

Dow Jones Industrial Average futures rose 272 points, or 0.8%, S&P 500 futures increased 39 points, or 0.8%, and Nasdaq futures gained 168 points, or 1.1%.

Oil prices turned lower, with both front-month global benchmarks North Sea Brent crude and US West Texas Intermediate crude down more than 5%, after UAE and Saudi officials reportedly said that the producer group OPEC+ should not engage in politics amid the Russian war on Ukraine.

At 9 am ET, data showed the Case-Shiller Home Price index rose 1.1% in January following a 0.9% gain in the previous month, according to Bloomberg data.

At 10 am, forecasters see the US Consumer Confidence Index coming in at 107 in March compared with February's 110.5 level. Job openings based on the Labor Department's JOLTS report are seen declining to 11 million for February from January's 11.263 million.

Shares of Russian stocks and Russia-focused exchange-traded funds remain halted on US exchanges.

In other world markets, Japan's Nikkei closed 1.1% higher, Hong Kong's Hang Seng closed 1.1% higher, and China's Shanghai Composite closed 0.3% lower. Meanwhile, UK's FTSE 100 rose 1.2% and Germany's DAX index surged 3% in Europe's early afternoon session.

On the winning side, Nielsen (NLSN) shares rose 21% after the company agreed to a $16 billion takeover by a private equity consortium. IGM Biosciences (IGMS) shares soared 42% after the company entered into a collaboration deal with Sanofi. Hycroft Mining (HYMC) shares surged 22% after Eric Sprott disclosed in a regulatory filing a 21.3% interest in the company.

On the losing side, Conn's (CONN) shares declined 12% after the company posted lower fiscal Q4 adjusted profit. NeoGenomics (NEO) shares slumped 29% after the company said it expects its Q1 revenue to be below its previously issued guidance. Aveanna Healthcare (AVAH) shares tumbled 18% after the company reported lower fiscal Q4 revenue.
