Longs See History of Next-Day Outperformance Following Earnings-Driven After-Hours Moves for Flex

Flex Ltd. (FLEX) is due to report its fiscal Q1 results after the close Thursday, July 25, and analysts polled by Capital IQ are expecting the company to report a profit of $0.27 per share on revenue of $6.25 billion.

FLEX shows a longer-term reversal trend between the sessions, particularly on downside moves, a datapoint that suggests shorts should be wary of going all in on a drop. Longs are recently seeing some post-after-hours widening of gains in the next day's regular session.

FLEX has recorded an earnings-driven after-hours decline in 34 quarters tracked in our database. In 24 of those events, or 71% of the time, the stock saw its downside narrow or reverse direction in the following day's regular session.

On the plus-side, FLEX has recorded an earnings-driven after-hours gain in 23 quarters, widening those advances in the following day's regular session in 13 of those events, or 57% of the time. In one event, the stock traded flat in night trade, followed by a next-day decline.
